Dear Reader,
Welcome to the second edition of our club newsletter, I hope you have all had a good Christmas and a Happy New Year and are ready to return to Karate in 2023 where we have an exciting year planned.
You will have seen from our Facebook page and website that we are recruiting new members for 2023 with the first 10 registered getting a free starter pack. We are also open to welcoming back past members who can claim 4 weeks free training - please share this information with your friends and families and lets make 2023 another year to remember. Sensei Andrew.
2022 Review The past 12 months has been an exceptional year for the club which has continued to grow in size and strength. From our youngest members in the Lil Dragons through to our oldest members we have continued to work hard and push each other to improve and reach our goals whilst also having fun.

We have seen students progress through gradings, develop at in house competitions, seen the progress and achievements of both our Welsh and development squad members and travelled to Poland for the World Championships, Sardinia for the Mediterranean Grand Prix and The Belgium Open.

It is fair to say that the name Akai Ryuu SKC and Wales are well known across the World Karate-Do Alliance following the past years exploits, in particular coming away from the world championships in Poland with 3rd place overall finish and no less than 19 world champions.

Both Callum and Tia Lewis have fought professionally in the past year and continue to use their knowledge and experience to bring the best out of each and everyone of our students.
Lucky 4's We continue to run our lucky 4's draw every Wednesday and would like to thank you for your support with this. The current prize fund stands at £380. All the monies raised go back into the running of the club, new equipment and support for students so please get behind this great cause.
Malta 2023

We are looking to taking a larger squad to the Malta Open in March/April 2023 and training sessions for those attending commence in January as we start the preparations for what will surly be a great event. Please see the app for more details on squad training.
Information has also been shared on Facebook regarding those that have been selected for both the Wales and Development Squads.
Gradings

Gradings are held regularly throughout the year, usually at 3-monthly intervals. It is important that students are training a minimum of twice a week on Mondays and Wednesday to be eligible for grading. Mock Grading will also be undertaken in coming weeks in order for Sensei to decide who is ready for this round of grading. Train hard, keep pushing and show Sensei that you are ready!!
Our last gradings were held in December 2022 which saw the following students achieve their 1st Dan:

Beau Timmins
Jamie Leigh Redwood
Isobel Fairbrother
Anya Gummer
A special mention must go out to Jac Tucker who passed his 2nd Dan grading in December
Thank you all again for your continued support we have some big plans for 2023 and look forward to seeing you back at the Dojo Wednesday 4th January. Sensei Andrew
